Express obligations in Japanese.
The rule
From the negative form in ない, replace ない with なければならない. This indicates a necessity or obligation. The polite version is ~なければなりません.
Examples
あしたはやくおきなければなりません。
Tomorrow, I have to get up early.
くすりをのまなければなりません。
I have to take the medicine.
Remember
- ない → なければならない expresses "duty".
- Express obligations in Japanese.
Common mistake
Consolidate ~なくてもいい (not necessary) and ~なければならない (obligation).
