Put two actions in chronological order.
The rule
Simple past verb (た-shaped) + あとで indicates that a second action takes place after the first one. You can also use noun + のあとで.
Examples
ごはんをたべたあとで、さんぽします。
I walk around after eating.
しごとのあとで、えいがをみます。
I'm watching a movie after work.
Remember
- Word in た + あとで: "after having...".
- Put two actions in chronological order.
Common mistake
Use the ます shape before あとで: it is not suitable in this structure.
